Event Description:

The Mar Menor lagoon, located in Murcia (Spain), is the largest permanent body of salt water in Europe. It is a unique natural place, with great ecological and scenic value. Until 2015 it was a place with a great biodiversity of fauna and flora and good levels of water quality. However, it is currently facing nutrient pollution problems, mainly nitrates, which have generated a serious eutrophication process in the lagoon.

BIOBOX® has been chosen by the Government of Murcia as a technically and economically viable solution to eliminate nitrates from the wadis that flow into the Mar Menor. BIOBOX® Nitrates (Puremust-sn®), throughout a demanding piloting in the D-7 wadi has demonstrated its high efficiency. It has achieved a nitrate removal above 90% and an operating cost per m3 treated below 0.10 €.

On the occasion of the European Green Week 2022 , BIOBOX® has created a webinar that will bring together experts in sustainable treatment of drinking water and wastewater. They will explain firsthand the operation of the innovative technology and the results obtained in this pilot.

Topics to be discussed: Situation of the Mar Menor, BIOBOX Nitrates Mar Menor , sustainability, efficient treatment of drinking and wastewater, denitrification and the future of the lagoon.
