BIOBOX Water is participating in WEFTEC 2025, the 98th edition of the largest water and wastewater quality event held in Chicago, Illinois (USA) from September 29 to October 1.
With more than 20,000 water professionals and over 1,000 exhibitors, WEFTEC has established itself as the international benchmark for water and wastewater quality, showcasing how innovation, data, and collaboration are driving digital transformation in the water sector.
In this setting, and in collaboration with The Water Council, we will show how BIOBOX Water is entering the US market, overcoming challenges and achieving successes. One of the most significant milestones has been the installation of its pilot plant in Gilbert, Arizona, consolidating a solution for a highly competitive and demanding environment.
“Our participation in WEFTEC 2025 represents another step forward in the internationalization of BIOBOX. The United States is a key market in which to demonstrate that our patented technology is not only effective and sustainable, but also competitive in this market compared to traditional alternatives. We want to share this journey with colleagues and partners who, like us, believe that biological and modular innovation is the future of water treatment,” says Joaquín Murría, CEO of the company.
In addition to sharing its experience at the previous edition, BIOBOX will be a guest on The Water Council panel, consolidating our role as an innovative company committed to technological advancement in the sector in the US and strengthening our strategic alliance with Aqua Metrology Systems (AMS), California-based company allied with BIOBOX in the United States.
About WEFTEC 2025
The Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) celebrates its 98th edition this year, consolidating its position as the largest annual water quality event in North America.
For three days, it becomes the meeting point where cutting-edge technical sessions, the most innovative companies, and the main agents of change in the industry converge.

The added value of BIOBOX Nitrates technology
In many parts of North America, nitrates in water pose a risk to human health and the environment. Fortunately, BIOBOX™ Nitrates systems offer a viable and sustainable alternative for municipalities and utilities seeking effective solutions.
Unlike traditional reverse osmosis systems, which are costly, energy-intensive, and generate toxic waste streams, BIOBOX technology stands out for being energy efficient, producing no polluting waste, and having much lower operating costs. This makes it the most attractive option for municipal customers concerned about costs and the environment.
As a fully automated biological denitrification solution, BIOBOX is SGS certified and all its components are NSF approved for drinking water. It is also compatible with wastewater, nutrient removal, and reuse projects. To date, BIOBOX has been successfully installed in five countries, consolidating the scope and reliability of its proprietary and patented technology.
BIOBOX pilot project in Gilbert, Arizona (USA)
The municipality of Gilbert (Arizona) has taken a pioneering step in water quality management with the launch of the first biological nitrate removal system in the United States, developed by BIOBOX Water (see news item).
The pilot project is a significant milestone for the company, which has deployed a demonstration system housed in a 20-foot container, fully automated and with remote access. This solution offers a maximum treatment capacity of 2 m³/h, ensuring nitrate removal in strict compliance with health regulations. In addition, it incorporates an innovative wash water reuse system, which ensures the quality of both treated and raw water.
Thanks to this initiative, Gilbert has successfully validated the effectiveness of BIOBOX’s proprietary system in real conditions and is already processing the necessary permits for its final implementation. This puts the municipality at the forefront of adopting sustainable, low-environmental-impact solutions for drinking water treatment.
