BIOBOX Water wraps up its participation in WEFTEC 2025, the leading water industry event held in Chicago, with very positive results.
An event that has not only helped strengthen our presence in the U.S. market, but also reminded us how innovation, data, and collaboration are driving the digital transformation of the water sector toward a more sustainable future.
During the 98th edition, held under the theme “Resilience”, the BIOBOX team —composed of Joaquín Murría (CEO), Patricia Ugarte (R&D Director), and Charles Taylor as an integral part of BIOBOX— shared talks, experiences, and insights with fellow water professionals. It was a real pleasure to connect with partners from The Water Council, Aqua Metrology Systems (AMS), Legacy Watercare Innovations, and many others. Thank you all!

Without a doubt, this event has reaffirmed BIOBOX’s commitment to eco-friendly water treatment solutions, improving water quality through our biological nitrate removal system for drinking water in the U.S. and nutrient removal systems for wastewater applications.

International Roundtable: The Value of Collaboration
One of the highlights of our participation at WEFTEC 2025 was taking part in the international roundtable organized by The Water Council, where Charles Taylor represented BIOBOX alongside industry leaders such as Orianna Bretschger (Aquacycl, U.S.), Ticia Heward (Legacy Watercare Innovations, Canada), and Stephen Slessor (RSE, U.K.).
The discussion focused on the importance of collaboration among international companies seeking to grow and expand into new markets. A truly enriching conversation that made it clear that success in global expansion does not rely solely on having advanced technology, but also on building local partnerships that bring regulatory, market, supplier, and legal expertise.
In a friendly and close atmosphere, all participants agreed that working with local partners allows faster adaptation, cost reduction, and greater effectiveness when entering a new market —fully aligned with BIOBOX’s expansion strategy.

Innovation and Cooperation: Pillars of the Future of Water
Beyond collaboration, the roundtable also emphasized another key driver: innovation as a source of competitiveness —a value deeply rooted in BIOBOX’s DNA. In a market that demands sustainable, high-value solutions, only companies that invest in research and development will truly stand out.
In this regard, organizations such as The Water Council play a fundamental role as innovation catalysts, connecting companies, institutions, and public programs. Their ecosystem fosters synergies and accelerates the adoption of advanced technologies —such as BIOBOX’s modular and biological systems— in the U.S. market.
In summary, we are truly grateful for the invitation and are already counting down the days to the next edition!

BIOBOX’s Commitment in the U.S.: A Biological Solution for Nitrates
The BIOBOX™ Nitrates system offers a viable and sustainable alternative for municipalities and utilities across North America seeking effective and cost-efficient solutions to high nitrate concentrations in water —a major health and environmental concern.
Unlike traditional reverse osmosis systems, which are highly energy-intensive and generate contaminated brine streams, BIOBOX’s biological denitrification technology stands out for its low energy consumption, zero waste generation, and reduced operating costs. Fully automated, it is SGS-certified, and all components are NSF-approved for drinking water applications. It is also suitable for wastewater treatment and water reuse projects.
And behind this technology is BIOBOX Water, a Spanish company with international presence, dedicated to developing modular, remotely monitored, and eco-friendly water treatment plants as the result of intensive R&D activity.
Its patented and proprietary technology represents one of the most advanced and customizable biological solutions for nitrate removal in drinking water and nutrient removal in wastewater, consolidating its position as a benchmark in sustainable water innovation.

The WEFTEC 2025 event has undoubtedly been an inspiring meeting point. We return from Chicago with a sense of accomplishment, excitement for the opportunities ahead, and the confidence that collaboration and innovation will continue to shape the future of water.
