BIOBOX at IFAT 2026 Munich: innovation, water treatment and new connections for the future

IFAT 2026, held in Munich, brought together leading players in the water, environment and sustainable technology sectors. BIOBOX took part in the event to present innovative solutions for drinking water and wastewater treatment, alongside ZINNAE and other European stakeholders from the water sector.

BIOBOX participates in IFAT 2026 in Munich

At BIOBOX, we close an intense, inspiring and highly productive week following our participation in IFAT 2026 in Munich, one of the most important international trade fairs for the water, environmental and sustainable technology sectors.

Over the course of the event, we had the opportunity to share our solutions for drinking water and wastewater treatment, gain first-hand insight into the latest trends in the sector, attend technical presentations, take part in professional meetings and establish new connections with companies, clusters and European organisations.

IFAT 2026 was once again a key meeting point for those of us working to develop solutions to the major challenges facing the water sector: water scarcity, emerging contaminants, water reuse, energy efficiency, digitalisation and the implementation of more sustainable technologies.

BIOBOX solutions for today’s water challenges

Our presence at IFAT 2026 allowed us to showcase the BIOBOX approach: developing compact, modular and scalable solutions to solve real problems in water treatment.

At BIOBOX, we work on the design and implementation of prefabricated water treatment plants adapted to the needs of each project. Our solutions can be applied across sectors such as drinking water supply, wastewater treatment, the food industry, mining, agriculture, aquaculture, and the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Our main technological lines include:

  • Nitrate removal through anoxic biofiltration
  • Ammonium treatment through nitrification processes
  • Iron and manganese removal
  • Organic matter reduction
  • Turbidity treatment through high-rate filtration
  • Adsorption of metals and arsenic
  • Combined solutions for water containing multiple contaminants

These technologies are designed to offer an efficient, automated and rapidly deployable alternative to conventional solutions, reducing the need for civil works and facilitating plant operation and remote control.

A trade fair full of conversations, visits and opportunities

During IFAT 2026, our team took part in numerous meetings, presentations, pitches and professional encounters with water sector specialists. We also received many visitors at the stand, where we were able to explain our solutions, exchange experiences and identify new needs in the European market.

The fair was especially valuable because of its ability to bring together technology companies, operators, public administrations, research centres and specialised clusters in a single space. These types of events help us better understand where the water sector is heading and how we can continue adapting our solutions to present and future challenges.

One of the most enriching aspects was the connection with European clusters and innovation organisations, with whom we were able to explore future synergies and potential collaborations. International cooperation is key to accelerating the development of new technologies and bringing them to market effectively.

Innovation in water: from technology to real-world application

At BIOBOX, we believe that innovation in the water sector is not only about developing new technologies. Innovation means ensuring that those technologies work under real conditions, are operable, efficient, scalable and provide long-term value.

That is why every BIOBOX solution is backed by significant work in engineering, applied research and technological development. Each project requires analysis, design, validation, manufacturing, automation, commissioning and operational monitoring.

Along this path, the work of INGEOBRAS as an engineering and R&D company is fundamental. Its experience makes it possible to transform ideas and technological advances into real, efficient solutions adapted to the technical requirements of each application.

Because behind every solution there is engineering. And behind every breakthrough there is knowledge, testing, data and the ability to bring technology into the real world.

PFAS, plasma and emerging contaminants: key trends at IFAT 2026

One of the most relevant topics during the fair was the treatment of emerging contaminants, especially PFAS, known for their persistence in the environment and the complexity involved in removing them from water.

During IFAT 2026, we attended a particularly interesting presentation on the removal of PFAS using plasma technology, a line of development that reflects the sector’s evolution towards more advanced technologies for treating compounds that are difficult to remove through conventional processes.

The presence of these types of solutions confirms that water treatment is entering a new stage, where it will be necessary to combine engineering, research, digitalisation and specific technologies to respond to increasingly complex problems.

Water4All, European clusters and international collaboration

Another highlight of the fair was the Water4All Partnership session, where innovation awards in the water sector were presented, along with projects funded through European calls.

These initiatives are essential to promote collaboration between companies, technology centres, universities and public administrations. They also help give visibility to innovative solutions developed by startups, SMEs and research organisations.

During IFAT 2026, we also took part in networking meetings with European organisations, including a lunch organised by the Danish Export Association, where the Water Smart Territories initiative was presented. In addition, we held meetings with other European clusters with whom we collaborate through ZINNAE.

We would like to give special thanks to ZINNAE for its organisation and coordination throughout the fair, as well as to Feria de Zaragoza, ACAI Depuración and S&S OXYJETS for sharing the stand with us during these days.

BIOBOX continues moving forward in the future of water treatment

BIOBOX’s participation in IFAT 2026 in Munich reinforces our commitment to developing innovative solutions for drinking water and wastewater treatment.

Our team, including professionals such as Patricia Ugarte, Joaquín, Diana and Fernando Bastos, will continue participating in upcoming events, sharing knowledge and working on new solutions to address water challenges.

We continue moving forward with a clear idea: the future of water needs efficient, sustainable, compact solutions adapted to the real needs of each territory and industry.

At BIOBOX, we continue working to help solve current and future water challenges by combining technology, engineering and applied innovation.

Because innovating in the water sector is not only about developing technology. It is about making it work in the real world.
