Biobox will present its modular water treatment solution based on advanced biological systems for nitrate removal at the 2025 edition of the international BREW 2.0 program, taking place in Milwaukee, USA, from June 16 to 20.
This is the first time that a Spanish company has been selected to participate in BREW 2.0, one of the world’s most prestigious acceleration and visibility programs for startups in the water treatment sector. Only 10 companies are selected each year after a rigorous evaluation process.
Biobox at BREW 2.0
The Biobox team, led by CEO Joaquín Murría, travels to Milwaukee (USA) to present its modular water treatment solution with a biological biohydrogen system, specifically for nitrogen removal, to investors, utilities, and regulatory entities with a clear objective:
- Attract strategic investment to scale production and internationalization.
- Forge alliances with utilities and operators interested in decentralizing water treatment.
- Position Biobox as a global leader in biological water decontamination.
What is BREW 2.0?
BREW 2.0 is a program promoted by The Water Council (link: https://thewatercouncil.com/) held in Milwaukee (USA) from June 16 to 20. It is an event that brings together the most promising startups in the water sector worldwide. Participation means:
- High-level networking in an ecosystem 100% focused on water solutions.
- Direct access to specialized investors.
- Mentoring sessions with industry leaders.
- Presentation to utilities, engineering firms, and market leaders in the US.
What is Biobox?
The Spanish company Biobox, located in Zaragoza, has been working for years to revolutionize biological water treatment through R&D&I with a clear vision: to ensure that innovation does not remain in the laboratory, but rather solves real problems in the field.
Its sustainable proposal, thanks to biohydrogen, achieves savings of more than $1.12 million per year in three years, as well as 25% water savings compared to other water treatment solutions. It is based on:
- Scalable, modular, container-type plants.
- Sustainable, biological technology to remove contaminants such as nitrates, ammonium, iron, manganese, and arsenic.
- Over 95% efficiency, with low CAPEX and OPEX.
- Remote monitoring with proprietary software.
- Certification and validation already proven in countries such as the United Kingdom, Chile, New Zealand, and the United States.
Biobox is not just an idea; it is an operational and growing technology with five active plants and a large international community of local partners.
In 2023, it will set its sights on the United States and conduct a pilot project in Arizona with excellent results. This project has been reported by the North American publication WaterWorld Magazine (link: https://www.waterworld.com/drinking-water-treatment/article/55280289/innovating-water-quality-in-arizona-gilberts-first-of-its-kind-biological-nitrate-removal-system). The United States, with more than 22 million people affected by nitrate contamination, represents a strategic market for expansion, but also a regulatory and operational challenge to be addressed with the help of local partners.
BREW 2.0 is a key opportunity to continue demonstrating that Spanish innovation in water treatment can lead the global transition toward more sustainable, cost-effective, and modular solutions.
